When we think of love, the first thoughts are always related to romance. This is the kind we grew up watching in films. Bollywood has often given us the idea that love is in epic gestures, eye contact, heartbreak, or happy afterwards. Love was celebrated, written and sung. It’s the heart of most stories we grew up in.
But love isn’t always loud. Sometimes it is the quietest and most constant presence in our lives. It’s not possible to get enough screen time, but it’s definitely the most realistic form of love we experience: friendship. Before we knew what romantic love is, we had already experienced the comfort of our best friend. But real friendships are sometimes underestimated as to all of their importance. It is not celebrated as the “eternal love” or “true love” that we are supposed to find, even if it is often the case.
Bollywood has always had something for friendship, but from dramatic loyalty (”Tera Yaar Hoon Main“Atmosphere) Due to the confusion of the comic, it sometimes can’t give it the spotlight that deserves.
Friendship: Unscripted love
You like it because But you love it in spite of
That’s exactly friendship. Not only do they like to get our humor, share our tastes with memes, or match rotten levels of their brains, but they love them despite not being able to reply to texts on time, so it’s not just about being around them. Friendship is not built on a fully curated aesthetic or highlight reel moments. You will be kidding, joking, doing exactly what they told you not to do, promoting them on a bad day, and helping them even when celebrating them with their smallest victory. It knows their entire toxic original history, but still makes them vent about them again. Friendship teaches us about loyalty, laughter, forgiveness and emotional intimacy before we can obtain the vocabulary for it. It’s love for no reason, and it’s what makes it the purest love story of our lives.
From Bollywood lenses
Bollywood is notorious for its love songs, emotional reunions and over the top romance, but has also been given several peak friendship goals over the years. The film places friendships at the heart of the story many times.
Some films don’t just show friendship, they feel that way.
- Kho Gaye Hum Kahan It fully captures the friendship of the modern, messy digital age. The trio of Imaad, Ahana and Neil are proving that no matter how lost you get in life, your best friend will always bring you back.
- Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara It wasn’t just a road trip. It was a troublesome and emotional memory of none of a friendships for a life change.
- Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani I can’t recall that the Bunny and Naina romance proved that some connections were meant to last because of the infragrant Naina Aditi bond and the broken friendship of Bunny Abhi.
- Dear JindagiI remember well on Aria Bhatt’s journey of self-love, but can you tell me how her best stood by her side? They were what gave her space to collapse and still showed up for her. The goal of friendship.
And then there’s the side kick. They don’t always shine the spotlight on themselves, they’re those who keep the life of heroes together.
- toto in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani It was a comic relief that always ensured that Rani had someone who always leaned down, someone who laughed, and someone who constantly reminded her that she was constantly capable.
- gang in Chihihoa It wasn’t just my friends at the hostel. They were family and the ride or death we all needed.
Bollywood may celebrate romance in the greatest form, but in these friendships we can find the most realistic and effortless love stories.
If it’s a little more like a movie
Sometimes it makes things a little too far as Bollywood does its friendship right. There are always self-sacrificing best friends, their love, their dreams, and sometimes even their whole being, who abandon their dreams for the happiness of their heroes. Certainly it’s poetic, but let’s be real. Friendship doesn’t work that way. The love of friendship is not about erasing yourself for someone else, but about growing and thriving together. One-dimensional companion – an eternally faithful and always available best friend whose sole purpose in life is to hype the hero. There’s no ambition, no backstory, no just comic relief, no emotional crutches. True friendship is not that one-sided. It’s both ways that everyone is the main character of their story.
Labelless love
Whether on-screen or off-screen, friendship is love with no rules, no labels, no prerequisites. Sometimes they share the same obsession with TV shows, laughing because their stomach hurts, instantly find out about tea at first glance, sending out the least popular audio notes and late-night rants about teachers who keep completing unnecessary tasks for you. Bollywood has always been a reminder to bring our best friends closer because of all of its exaggeration. Is it because ultimately, your boyfriend and girlfriend might have friendships coming and going? They are for life.
