In the middle of the opening set of BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! On Thursday, rapper and performance poet Decora dedicated a song to the man he calls his mentor, folk singer Pete Seeger. Rap was also deeply involved in the crack epidemic and the war on drugs. At the time, a common rebuttal to rappers' criticism of their lyrics was that they simply reflected the realities of the streets.
