During her conversation with Pink Villa, she recalled that most of the money that flows in the film came through transactions under the table. According to her, “It was dominated by people like Dawood Ibrahim. All the money that came to the film industry came from the underworld. It was a completely different scenario.”
The heavy burden of sudden stardom
Anu's fame rose quickly. Aashiqui's huge success changed her to a famous name overnight, but the worship was quickly overwhelmed. Continuous public opinion deeply influenced her, retreating her from the spotlight. She talked about the level of obsession the fans had. Some travelled internationally just to get a glimpse of her residence.
She said, “To let me roam around and live alone… I had a fan standing under my building. Luckily, it was an MLA-MP building, so there was police protection. It was insane.
This period of fame has become choked, not at the time of celebration. Anu ultimately chose to leave the film. This is not because of bitterness or disillusionment, but because the strength of fame is too much to deal with. She explained that she has already achieved her dreams and wants to pursue personal growth outside of the industry.
Aashiqui's success did not provide full compensation
Despite Aashiqui's commercial victory, Anu Aggarwal revealed that she has not been fully paid for her role in the film. She claimed she received only 60% of her compensation, and the remaining amount remains unpaid decades later. “I haven't received the full amount of Ashiki to this day. I've only been paid 60% of the full amount. They still owe 40%,” she follows her breakthrough. However, after a devastating car accident in 1999, her rising career suddenly halted. The conflict caused her to fall into a coma for 29 days and not return to acting after recovery. Her final film appearance was the return of the Jewel Thief from the 1996 thriller. The pressure of the industry's dark association and fame may have been enough to kick everyone out, but Anu has made it clear that her decision to leave is personal. She emphasized that she had no regrets and wanted to explore a life beyond film.
