Many actors and filmmakers have spoken about the troubling state of the Hindi film industry and how it is upset under the pressure of box office failures and standard films. In a recent interaction, Nawazdin Siddiki called on the industry for lack of original ideas and creativity and constantly copying Southern film content.
In his recent interaction with Puja Talwar, Nawazdin has denounced the industry for supporting standard films over the past five years. He also called the sequel culture “pathetic.” He said, “In fact, anxiety has increased dramatically. I feel that if the formula is working, I should continue to milk and go too far. What's even more pathetic is that there are two, three or four sequels being made.”
He devised the term “creativeruptcy” to highlight the way the film industry went bankrupt with creative ideas. He said, “It's a creative bankruptcy, like financial bankruptcy. There's a lot of creative poverty.”
The “The Serious Men” actor calls people in the film industry burglars for stealing ideas from Southern films. He said, “How do thieves become creative now? We were stolen from the south, sometimes from here, sometimes from there. Even the hit cult movies have copied scenes.
Nawaz also pointed out the disturbing norms in the Hindi film industry. Here we pointed out that the maker handed over the movie video and asked someone directly to replicate it. “What can we expect from an industry like this? What actors will come in? They'll be the same kind of thing,” he said.
He also got the opportunity to mention how filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was forced to quit the Hindi film industry due to this culture. “And the actors and directors start quitting – like Anurag Kashyap, who was bringing good jobs,” he said.
