Like the king who investigates his empire, Mohanlal is not challenged at the box office. With nearly 50 years of career and over 340 films in his name, the 64-year-old legend once again proves why he is Mollywood’s indisputable ruler. His latest outing, L2 Empuraan, has rewritten history as he not only broke records, but also won the No. 1 spot in the largest day collection at Malayalam cinemas.
Best day collection of Malayalam movies:
no. | film | Rank | collection |
1 | Empuraan | Day 1 | Rs 67 crore |
2 | Empuraan | Day 4 | Rs 39.1 crore |
3 | Empuraan | Day 3 | Rs 35 crore |
4 | Empuraan | Day 2 | Rs 34.5 crore |
5 | Empuraan | Day 5 | Rs 26.2 crore |
6 | Malakkar | Day 1 | Rs 20.4 crore |
7 | Krupp | Day 1 | Rs 19.2 crore |
8 | Odhian | Day 1 | Rs 18.1 crore |
9 | Empuraan | Day 6 | Rs 17.5 crore |
10 | Lucifer | Day 4 | Rs 16.7 crore |
Of Mollywood’s top 10 largest day collections, nine belong to superstar Mohanlal. This is not just a rule, it is a pure cinema legacy.
Previously, Mohanlal’s Malakal (£20.4 cr), a historic war drama directed by Priyadarshan, and fantasy thriller Odhyan (£18.1 cr), produced massive openings. The L2 Empuraan has set a whole new benchmark. Dulquer Salman tried to break into the top slot earlier with Kurup (£19.2 cr), but the film managed to reach only the No. 2 spot, but now Empuraar has abdicated to No. 7 on the top 10 list.
Empolan’s unstoppable tsunami
It’s not just about numbers, but about the pure domination of Emperan, which is currently widely discussed. The rest of India has not been given the same love at the box office revenues of director Prithviraj Sukumaran, but the Middle Eastern outbreak of Kerala’s love and film is overwhelming. The first day of the film alone overturned all other films in the history of Malayalam cinema. The collection is expected to surge even more over the weekend.
What we need to see from now on is whether Empolan could rob a topper like No. 1 spot Manjummel Boys in its complete and final theatrical collection from the global box office. It depends on the overload – we mean the audience!
