Burna Boy has come under heavy criticism following his recent comments on Afrobeats.
The Nigerian genius sat down with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe and shared his beliefs about the genre’s lack of substance.
of I love you, Damini Starr said: “Ninety percent of them have very little real-life experience to understand. So I don't even know what to call Nigerian music, or should I say African music, or Afrobeat, but most of the music I hear is… It's about almost nothing, literally nothing, as people call it. It has no substance. ”
Barna, 32, continued: “Nobody's talking about anything. It's just a great time, it's a great time. But at the end of the day, life isn't a great time. No matter how much fun you're having right now, or at some point You're still going to be faced with life, whether you've been there or are going to spend it.I mean, to me, I feel like this is what music should be, music should be the essence of an artist. You know what? As I say, artists are people too, people who have good days and bad days and great days and terrible days, and for me, this one with my face and my name on it. If I give you something like that, I should give you that experience. It should be a window into its essence.”
Fans and critics did not take his comments lightly. One tweeted“If this person wants to criticize other artists, they should do so, and stop mocking the genre.”
another commented“He's the only one at the top because someone said he was burning the ladder he climbed. And they're right, this isn't it.”
someone else There's a chime “I made these statements just to please the Western media and the people,” Barna said. [look] “Davido and Wizkid would never have this kind of rubbish conversation.''
Although he has yet to respond to the backlash, he was embroiled in another controversy in March over comments about Africans versus African Americans.
