Disney plans to open the Fox Studio lot by the end of the year as it appears to bring the Los Angeles-based production team closer to Burbank.
As part of Fox’s $71.3 billion deal with Disney in 2019, the former has controlled a 53-acre lot on Pico Boulevard in Century City and signed a seven-year leaseback agreement with Disney to avoid disruption in production.
Over the past year, Disney Entertainment TV has been actively working to create a creative hub where production teams can work together more closely. As part of the plan, Disney has decided not to renew its lease, and the Fox Lot-based team is in various stages of relocating to Burbank workplaces, including Disney Studio Lot. All moves are expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
First founded in 1928, Foxlot was the location for classic films such as “Miracle on 34th Street” and “The Sound of Music.” In recent years, its production facilities have been home to ABC’s “Modern Family,” “Speakingless,” “Bart Off Off Off Boat,” and Ryan Murphy’s FX Show and Fox’s “Orville,” “Mick,” and “Love Gas.” Plans for current productions, such as “9-1-1” and “9-1-1: Lone Star,” remain unknown.
A Disney spokesman declined to comment, but Fox’s representatives immediately did not reply to a request for comment.
As Disney’s move calls for regulatory approval to expand the lot, there are plans to add another new, energy-efficient office building along the Olympic Boulevard boulevard boulevard boulevard boulevard’s boulevard, and nine new, cutting-edge soundstages for the lot.
The streets of the Star Building include 35 stories, along with seven levels of parking. Upon completion of the public transport project in 2025, access to the new public square and Metro D-Line will be posted. Fox said it would put $20 million in a “transport solution” aimed at reducing the impact of development.
The 24-storey tower on Olympic Boulevard includes joint open spaces and shared and private offices designed for film and television production. Both buildings will be built using green and recycled building materials, solar infrastructure and other sustainability features.
Fox previously said the expansion will help maintain around 3,000 existing jobs across Southern California by creating nearly 5,000 new jobs and meeting industry demand in LA. It said the project could have a $1.5 billion economic impact and could directly generate annual revenues to the city of Los Angeles to fund public services.
Post Disney, leaving the Fox Studios Lot by the end of 2025, has moved the team to Burbank.
