MNS spokesman Ameya Khopkar recently said he was against the release of Abir Gulaal in Maharashtra as he is starring Pakistani actor.

Pakistani actor Fawad Khan returns to Bollywood after an eight-year break with co-star Vani Kapoor of romantic comedy Abir Gurahl.
It is no secret that Pakistani actor Fawad Khan is ready to make a comeback in Bollywood in his upcoming film Abhi Guraal. Hours after the makers of the film released their teaser on Tuesday, they are now in trouble. Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) opposed the release of the film in Maharashtra.
As reported by the Free Press Journal, MNS spokesman Ameya Khopkar recently said he has been opposed to the release of the film in Maharashtra since the Pakistani actor starred. “We only learned about the release of this film today when the manufacturers announced. However, as it features Pakistani actors, it makes it clear that this film will not be allowed to be released in Maharashtra. Such a film will not be released in the state. We will gather more information about the film and issue a full statement soon.
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam also responded to the controversy and said, “There is widespread hatred in Pakistan, India. When Pakistani films are released, Indian audiences do not like to see it.
“If the central government has a policy on this, it should be implemented. The decision on whether Pakistani films should be released in India or whether their artists should be allowed to work here must be made by the government,” Nirpam continued.
Abeer Glaal Stars Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor. The film is directed by Aarti S. Bagdi, known for his inspiring storytelling in Chalti Rahe Zindagi. She works with the producer’s Indian Story, richer lenses and Aarjay’s photography to make this cross-cultural story a reality. The filming, which began in late September 2024, unfolded across picturesque areas in and around London, closing its 40-day schedule in the UK capital.
