Fish ends spring tour with a vast jam at the Hollywood Bowl

Last night, April 27th, Fish ended his spring tour in his third and final stands at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. A week after seven incredible shows down the West Coast, they took them to a less common city on their hit list, giving them a promising start to their 42nd year performance.

Fish began his eighth performance in the famous Hollywood Bowl with a bust-out of the highly structured Latin groove “Ladyland”. A good intro for this setting was the first standalone track appearance since August 2022, but “Punch You in the Oye” appeared on stage at the Bilgraham Auditorium in San Francisco on Wednesday, April 23rd. The group advanced through “sand” to the “lizard” in Game Henderedge through “sand”, then buried the “Hay Stranger” funk into the exploratory treatment of “Timber (Jerry the Mule).” The first joy and explosive, tank-blowing year “most events are not planned” concluded the first frame.

The first set flourished with a selection of concise crowd-pleasing songs, but the second half of the evening was committed to some of the most adventurous jamming so far, with a nearly fully segurated seven-track voyage. The Vermont quartet tested water in “More” high energy opening game before beginning the transition with “You Found Myself.” This was the longest treatment of setlist staples in years since the 29-minute version on July 26, 1998. A seamless transition made me logged the song to “Twist” for the first time. This was cascaded into “Kildevil Falls”, “Lifeboy”, and “Splach Zaranatra”. After a final left turn and then turned to “Say It It To Me Santos,” Fish returned to the stage for the burning encore of “Fuego,” the first single encore song to surpass the 20-minute mark since August 2004.

Fish returns to the spotlight on June 20th and begins a 23-stop summer tour for a performance at Sunchester, New Hampshire. For tickets and more information, visit Phish.com.
