Washington– Sponsored by Howard University to celebrate 50 years of hip-hop. Hip Hop 50: Past, Present, and Future Conferences August 10th and 11th.
The conference will feature panel discussions structured around pertinent questions and issues being discussed within today's hip-hop culture, including artist performances at block parties. This conference is sponsored by Howard University's College of Arts and Sciences and the Cathy Hughes School of Communication.
“The primary purpose of the conference is to introduce the Hip Hop minor to the Howard University community, and this will mark Howard University's growing involvement in hip hop education.” Misia ClarkPh.D., Associate Professor of African Cultural and Feminist Studies in the Department of African Studies.
The two-day conference will feature simultaneous panel discussions and workshops by academics, activists, and artists.Workshops and hands-on activities include a breakdance cypher, rap cypher, and outdoor graffiti wall. Conference panels include “Women and Representation in Hip Hop,” “Hip Hop's Cultural Impact,” “Hip Hop and Mental Health,” and “Resilient Rhymes: Celebrating Women in Hip Hop, Past, Present, and Future.” , “AI vs. Hip Hop,” “Hip Hop and Social Justice,” Hip Hop and Higher Education, Religion, Spirituality, Hip Hop, and more. Speakers and participants include: Lenny S. And that Roc Nation Family, Reggie Peters (universal hip hop museum),Lance Pope (ASCAP), jasmine young (Warner Music/Blavatnik Center), New York University Film Professor bill stephney,Music producer buck wildmusic artist and producer Raina Simone Howard alumni.
