Like a contradiction, getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is easy and complicated. The entry requirements are basic enough to get that as everyone who needs to etch names on the pavement must have celebrity status, but there are plenty of deficits to cut.
Filmmaker Stanley Kramer was first honored in March 1960 when the Fame Walk became a fixture on Hollywood Boulevard. And there are nearly 3,000 stars covering five eligible categories: film, television, recording, radio, live performance and sports entertainment.
However, there are some quirks, like the fact that stars are not allowed to be removed due to their status of fame as a registered historic landmark, regardless of what the recipient is like. So people are still walking through the past, Bill Cosby, Kevin Spacey, and Home alone 2 Star Donald Trump shares the sidewalk with Godzilla, Batman and Big Bird.
All it takes is a single nomination, and anyone can nominate a celebrity for Walk of Fame status by filling out the form. If the person in question, or their manager or representative, agrees to it deserves, they write an agreement that will be sent to the committee and they will deliberate whether they are truly deserved.
But if they are alive, it definitely helps. The post-mortem award is limited to one per year and must have been dead for at least two years before it happens. Still, there are as many stars as they are cooked each year, and anyone approved has two years to schedule their own ceremony. Otherwise, their application will be considered disabled and will be forced to start the process again.
The cost of submitting your application is $275, which is hard to hear. However, the mandatory $85,000 sponsorship fee covers the costs of creating, installing and maintaining the star. It’s a decline in the ocean for most of the rich and famous people who get it, but it certainly sounds like a system that allows a face with a spare time to move itself forward for reasons other than ego or vanity.
There will definitely be a few or more people who have paid stars out of their pockets. It’s probably Adam Sandler, but that’s about it. Some Absolut Vodka have a repeat of shameless PR exercises.
That said, it is not a required requirement. Some stars have been nominated and approved for a walk of fame star and simply refuse the opportunity. It doesn’t happen very often when most people in Hollywood are constantly searching for themselves, but some icons have turned it down.
Has anyone ever turned it down?
The short answer is yes. Prince refused it twice after being nominated, so fame producer Anna Martinez evoked another world-famous icon who knocked back the nomination to explain that the recipients must sign off in advance.
Bruce Springsteen fans have finalized “Boss” and his nomination has been accepted. “We announced it, but he didn’t want it,” she said. people. “So I created something called the ‘Springsteen clause.’ This now has to sign off. Otherwise, it’s not fair to those who want it. ”
Prince will earn a star after death in June 2025, but he and Springsteen aren’t the only ones. Madonna, Clint Eastwood, Julia Roberts, Denzel Washington and George Clooney are just a few of the names that should have now, but because they are not interested in being enshringed on the pavement.
