JA Rule joined the list of hip-hop entrepreneurs in 2024, and Amber & Opal is a whiskey made for new and veteran drinkers.
JA Rule has set its sights on the liquor corridor with the launch of Amber & Opal, a honey-infused rye whiskey that it co-founded in 2024.
The rapper worked with Herblyce, Sandy Sandy Ford and Kelvin Burton to create a spirit aimed at veteran whiskey enthusiasts and spirits that only dipped their toes into categories.
The Maryland-based blend combines two years of straight rye and orange flower honey, smoky black tea, and warming spices such as cinnamon, ginger and figs.
“I can’t say I’m the biggest whiskey drinker before we launch Amber & Opal. My partner herb, he is a whiskey lover in the group. I’m curious by the whiskey side.
The brand’s name reflects its dual identity. “Amber” nods to tradition and warmth, while “opal” represents diversity and richness.
The whiskey’s flavor profile leans towards its balance with a smooth finish thanks to an unusual Chinese tea called Lap Sanseau Chong.
According to JA rules, the goal is to provide an entry point for more familiar whiskeys without alienating appraisers.
“We want whiskey lovers to love it, but we want whiskey to be able to drink it too. [and make it] The perfect entrance to drink whiskey. So it’s really good that honey plant whiskey. You can taste the cinnamon and orange flavor and have a really nice smoked finish. It uses black Chinese tea called Lapsang Souchong. It really makes a special blend. ”
