Kevin Spacey compared the collapse of his own career to the victims of the mid-20th century Hollywood blacklist on Tuesday. He won an award at the Cannes Film Festival.
“congratulations [Better World Fund founder Manuel Collas de La Roche] Deadline said the “Cards of Cards” actor was “for the decision to invite me here tonight to accept this award.” But here we are. ”
Spacey, who has been accused of multiple cases of sexual misconduct in recent years, was liable for a 2022 New York civil lawsuit and was found to have received criminal charges in London in 2023. He has not yet won a major studio role, but is working again with independent and international films.
In his remarks, Spacey compared herself to Dalton Trumbo. Dalton Trumbo was blacklisted for Communist fears from 1947 to 1960.
“It was a long time ago, but we have to think about that pushback. [Kirk Douglas] Oscar-winning screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who received after he made the brave decision to stand up for his fellow colleagues, he had no chance of finding a job in Hollywood for 13 years. ”
Spacey pointed out that Douglas thrust his neck into a trumbo in 1960 despite the threat of ruining his career.
“[Douglas] “It's easy for our actors to play heroes on screen.” Spacey continued. However, in real life, choices are not always that clear. You may have to stand up for the principal. I've learned a lot from history – it often repeats itself. “The blacklist was a terrible time in our history so we made sure it never happened again.”
Hundreds of Hollywood experts have destroyed careers against accusations of communist tendencies – many of them are false.
“Today, we will find ourselves once again at the intersection of uncertainty and fear in the film business and beyond,” according to Deadline, named “The Last Man Standing” producer Tim Doyle, who was punished by WGAW for the lynching image he posted during the 2023 author's strike.
“The Writers Guild decided to send his criticism to all 17,000 guild members, so as expected, Tim hasn't gotten a job since then,” Spacey said. “I don't touch the studio because of the jokes he posted. I tried to turn Tim's friend, a comedy writer named Rob Ulyn, to the Writers Guild back their accusations.”
Spacey said history will repeat itself – “But only if we allow it.”
“Two weeks ago, the writers' guild had all members overturned Tim's accusations and at the same time Manuel invited me here to accept this award!”
Kevin Spacey's post compares his light-form to a Hollywood blacklist in Cannes' fiery defense.
