Disney’s Hollywood Studios has an underrated restaurant roster and is an underrated food park among fans of Walt Disney World. I’ve been saying this for years, but I backed up this by ranking DHS options highly on various lists of best places to eat at WDW.
Most of you don’t seem to agree. Disney’s Hollywood Studios earns more love from fans than Magic Kingdom, which is perhaps both the worst food park in Walt Disney World and the worst castle park in terms of food (though Disneyland Paris says “hold my boulevard”). For some reason, DHS has fewer fan favorite restaurants than any other park in Walt Disney World.
Part of this is excellent for the dining room that is based on Disney’s Hollywood studios, two of which are Best Theme Restaurants in Walt Disney World At the 50’s Primetime Cafe or SF Dine-in Theater Restaurant, that type of restaurant is polarised among fans. Naturally, many guests visit the restaurant For foodin contrast to the atmosphere.
Other top picks include Minnie’s Seasonal Meal (one of our favorite character meals), Toy Story Round Uprodeo BBQ, Oga’s Cantina, Brown Derby and Baseline Tap House. I speculate that only one of them is considered underrated by the majority of fans, and I think that would be the baseline taphouse. But in my number, there are half a dozen different sit-in restaurants that are potentially valuable at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. There’s something for everyone on the list above.
Next is the counter service restaurant roster. Top 20 Counter Service Restaurants in Walt Disney World. To be fair, we recently revisited Docking Bay 7 and found that its two most expensive entrees remained to be desired. Still, Star Wars still has a Ronto roaster. The Edge of the Galaxy and Woody Lunchbox of Toy Story Land – a small option, but two fan favorites.
That being said, there is one simple and easy counter service restaurant that will eat better than all the other restaurants in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Combined: ABC Committee.
During my itinerary testing with Lightning Lane at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I repeatedly mentioned ABC Commissary as my go-to restaurant. As someone who doesn’t have to constantly revisit stage shows at DHS, I often use the ABC Commissar as a reprieve from the crowd.
My favorite menu items at ABC Commissary are the Buffalo Chicken Kinglil Cheese Cheese Cheese Sandwich with sourdough bread with buffalo chicken, Monterey, Proborone, cheddar and cream cheese, along with side options.
Traditionally, those sides were either fried steaks, arugula farro salad, or slices of apples. When I’m eating with Sarah, I order a salad as a “compromise” to offset a very luxurious sandwich. However, “When a cat is far away, mice play”I think that’s a quote from Walt Disney), which means you order steak fries when you eat solo.
Recently I noticed that ABC Commissar added Buffalo French fries as an upgrade (+$2.00) to my appetizer, so I decided to do some good OLE fashion research report. What you’re about to read is its best people’s journalism.
Buffalo Fries features ranch season fries served with Buffalo Ranch sauce and blue cheese dressing.
This $2 upcharge is definitely not worth it.
It’s a rather open and closed case. It’s enough journalism for today. We can pack it up and head home.
Don’t get me wrong, the fries are good. This does not mean that it is not recommended from a taste perspective. It’s all about value propositions. This is basically a light layer of sauces applied very sparingly, as if it’s a valuable item, and Disney should carefully doll out in the gaze-sized portion. I don’t know if anyone thinks this is worth the extra $2.
For that amount, I would expect french fries that are completely packed in the sauce and, frankly, there should be cheese in the conversation. Maybe meat, or at least bacon bits (I’m not sure if it qualifies as meat in a technical sense). We once went to war on “loaded” fries and believe we have settled this completely. The sauce alone is not a topping, it’s a free seasoning. The Florida Legislature really needs to take this issue up. This is far more pressing than the entire RCID.
But if you’re wearing a “most expensive day ever” shirt and trying to rain wherever you go in Walt Disney World, you’re inevitably scattered across Buffalo Flies. Certainly they aren’t worth it, but obviously, if you spend your money to complain that you don’t have the money, you don’t have the best financial literacy. At least these are better than shirts.
Since this blog is all about intense news, I tested another hypothesis. When dipped in the free sauce available on ABC Commissar, the steak fries are just as tasty.
My working theory was that when I soaked in Ken’s Steakhouse Buttermilk Ranch, plain steak fries tasted equally tasty. In the end, combine it steak French fries and steak House sauce (both inexplicably meat-free) makes sense.
The results were conclusive. This double-chute duo tastes delicious and costs $0. A big win for Frugal Walt Disney World guests! Also, recent studies suggest that the high proportion of Americans feel that ketchup is a complementary seasoning for fries. Good news: ABC Commissars are also dumping that sauce.
What else can you say about the Buffalo Chicken Kinglil Cheese Sandwich that has not been said yet?
My in-depth research, beyond the shadow of doubt, ultimately proved that this is one of the most delicious counter service entrees in Walt Disney World. This is one of my favorite guilt in everything about Walt Disney World. It’s also great value for money under $13 (there are regular steak fries, as opposed to the buffalo variety).
It is a glorious and gloomy creation, with four flavors of cheese that balance and tame with buffalo chicken. The toasted bread provides a nice texture and the dipping sauce can add a bit of kick, but overall it’s rather mild and not spicy in any way. This is one of my favorite counter service comfort foods in everything about Walt Disney World. A simple 10/10 main dish.
Beyond the medley of meat and cheese, I don’t know what they’re putting on this bad boy. Even if it’s something like a Seinfeld episode of “fat yogurt,” you won’t be surprised if this puppy knits with tasty additives and chemicals. (There are no complaints here. If I eat enough “organic” foods at home, my body can withstand a little additive for preservation.)
Again, the four types of cheese are probably unexplained. Buffalo Chicken Ril Cheese Sandwiches aren’t like people who pretend to be actually a healthy food. (Well, I told Sarah that, but she didn’t buy it.)
The bottom line shows that the Buffalo Chicken Kinglil Cheese Sandwich became my go-to lunch at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, testing and field testing on Lightning Lane strategies. It’s one of my top 5 favorite meals in everything at Walt Disney World. It was added to the menu five years ago so I ate a lot of it and still carry it. This section is virtually not smaller, the corners have not been reduced, and the prices are still reasonable. There was a big win overall, in contrast to what happened with the other main dishes at Walt Disney World.
This buffalo chick king lil cheese cheese sandwich is one of the few things I crave when I’m not in the park, leaving the menu and rants for decades long forgotten by most fans. My explanation never makes it completely just. You need to try it yourself.
The Buffalo Chick Kinglil Cheese Sandwiches are reasonably priced and delicious, incredibly satisfying, after running around the park all morning and then during the mid-afternoon break. I like ordering it, sitting in the corner and cooling the air conditioner a bit.
He is also a huge fan of ABC Commissary. Because it is one of the few car parked restaurants in Walt Disney World with a self-service drink station. I’m crashing here in the afternoon after a long day (especially if I arrive at the crack of dawn for early entry), so I like to café-teorize the cafe. And I can bring some coke back to my steps, especially after that extravagant sandwich.
As for the restaurant itself, it’s absolutely nothing special and somewhat ironic. There’s been a lot of digital ink leaking to praise the fun restaurants in Disney’s Hollywood Studios with the best theme, but when it comes to the fun of your own culinary, I eat the most boring things in the park, far more boring than anywhere else.
