A five-person student team from North Hollywood High School in the San Fernando Valley took third place in Washington, DC on April 28th in the Department of Energy sponsored National Science Bowl Competition. Five students faced a Top Notch High School team of more than 65 from across the US
Students Conor Chang, Mingao Guo, Charles Hun, Onishi Suzuki and Conor Zao won the country’s best high schools after winning local competitions open to public, private and Parokia schools within the boundaries of the Los Angeles Unified School District.
On Friday, Xavier Chavez, assistant principal at North Hollywood High School, said the team’s students are part of the school’s highly talented magnet program. “We are extremely proud of their success,” he said. “We know this is a young team full of underclassmen, so we’re excited about their future (at the National Science Bowl) next year.”
Officials from the LA Bureau, who sponsored the previous Regional Regional Science Bowl, which involved around 40 high school teams on March 8, said in a statement that the team had demonstrated “extraordinary scientific knowledge and teamwork for more than 65 high school regional teams from across the country.”
