On Friday, April 11th, Auburn University will host its annual fashion event co-hosted by the University of Consumer Sciences and Design Sciences, co-hosted by the Association of Apparel Merchandising and Design.
The show was held at Jay and Susie’s Gogue Performing Arts Center, with doors opened at 6pm, and the show has been working diligently to make the show come true since the beginning of the fall semester.
FEP classes will be held once a week in the fall semester and twice in the spring. Ansulin Dryden, a senior apparel merchandising, is the director of the class.
The FEP class has seven different committees of creative, styling and modeling, decoration, fundraising and lookbooks, public relations and social media, media and communication specialists.
Dryden oversees all committees and steps where she needs. She has a class agenda that she checks off each week before the event takes place.
“No one needs to worry about anything, as everyone in the class is amazing. The most challenging part of the event was making sure everything worked alongside the gouge center.
The show has been held in the Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum in the past, so changing it and planning a new layout is one of Dryden’s most exciting challenges.

Lookbooks revolve around the entire show and can be purchased at events. It includes photos from the preview shoot, all the clothing displayed on the runway, and even details of the process taken to make the clothes.
“It’s a concrete book, like a coffee table book. You can flip over, and it’s mainly a place where you can see the design. This year’s theme is behind the seams, so we’re where we are now, and now, with decorations and lookbooks where we are,” Dilden said.
Elistompson, a senior in apparel merchandising, is president of the Apparel Merchandising and Design Association and head of the Decoration Committee. She has been in the FEP class for the past two years.
“My favorite part of being heading the Decoration Committee is hearing all my peers’ different ideas for decoration and seeing them come together when the event finally premieres,” Thompson said.
Because the theme of this year’s fashion event is behind the seams, Thompson and her committee have used many different student work to achieve the final decorative look. Thompson has many practical workers to help them achieve the event’s appearance end goal.
Other fashion students in the FEP class can volunteer to help set up the show and make sure everything runs smoothly. If students apply to work with FEP students during the event, they will have the opportunity to apply for FEP classes next semester.
Caitlin Finger, a senior apparel design and head of the Creative Committee, works with Dryden to achieve his goal of making the show a success.
“My favorite part is seeing it all come together and everyone sees the excitement about it being in a new place and sees all the hard work pay off by showing off their designs,” Finger said.
Finger and her classmates are each excited about the new venue, enhancing the viewing experience for participants. The new venue will also enhance your sense of style into one of the nation’s top college-level fashion productions.
Tickets for the fashion event can be found on the Gouge Center website. Students can sign in with Auburn qualifications to receive discount ticket options.
