Paramount’s Thursday Cinema Composition comes as the studio reaches a crossroads. With future mergers with SkyDance going on a long government review process, this is expected to be the last time Paramount Chief Brian Robbins will appear on the Las Vegas stage.
“I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved at Paramount amid all the noise that is happening at the parent company,” Robbins said in his speech.
Whenever he is sent off, Robbins leaves a long slate with a team that includes film president Mike Ireland and animation president Ramsey Knight. Robbins listed some of those films in the opening greetings of Gina Prince Bishwood’s book series, “Blood and Bone of Blood and Bone,” David Ayer’s “Heart of the Beast,” and Paramount’s most trusted franchise’s “Sonic the Hedghog 4.”
Chief of domestic distribution, Chris Aronson also took part in a motorcycle stunt show with a theme of “Mission: Impossible,” and continued the dramatic entrance cinema tradition, taking part in a motorcycle stunt show with a candid thought about the challenges faced by filmmakers.
“We need to not only charge a premium price, but we also need to provide a premium Movieger experience,” Aronson said. He praised the cinema chain that has made changes to its customers, including fewer trailers, potential movie fans in grassroots marketing, daily deals on concessions, and extending the price of matinees to 6pm.
To drive that house he presented a graphic wrist theater chain that does each of them, including the Midwest chain’s classic cinema, which expanded the price of matinees everywhere.
But Aronson mixed that constructive criticism with a bit of snark.
“Discount Tuesdays. Everyone does them. But why not discount Wednesdays? Unless you already have full capacity,” he said.
Robbins and Aronson gave way to presentations that focus on action and animation. It starts with Glen Powell and Edgar Wright presenting the “Running Man.” This would like a similar role in Gladiator II playing against Wicked and Moana 2, attracting film participants who want a fight scene instead of a musical number.
On the side of comedy, Akiba Schafer, a member of “The Lonely Island,” reclaims the “Naked Gun” series. This cried out in laughter as the expansion trailer showed bitter approval for OJ Simpson’s involvement in the series. Ramsey Knight also took to the stage to announce new titles for “The Legend of the Ang: The Last Airbender” and new titles for “Smurf” and “SpongeBob’s Square: Search for the Squared Person.”
And at the end of the show, Tom Cruise took to the stage and released a new trailer for “Mission: Impossible: The Final Calculation,” introducing the film’s director, Christopher McCurley, to the Cinema Condirector of the Year Award. He also took a little time to honor the late Val Kilmer, and he shared the screens in both “Top Gun” films.
