Wes Anderson is a rarity in Hollywood, with a clear, uninterrupted aesthetic that pleads for all the big names in Hollywood to join in their next project.
Leading by Benicio del Toro, his new film, “The Phoenician Scheme,” sees the revival of numerous previous collaborators, including Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright and Scarlett Johansson, but adds a new face to the Anderson universe.
Set in the 1950s, he follows a ruthless yet charismatic European business tycoon called Zsa-Zsa Korda, “has little obligation to respect the truth,” in Anderson’s own words.
SZA-SZA, trying to solidify his own legacy without much thought about his ten children, the slave he wants to use, or the land he wants to exploit, follows multiple deals so he can build his career definition project, Korda Land, Sea Phoeniach Infrastructure Scheme.
‘Motivational Drugs
Phoenician’s plans were partly inspired by Anderson’s stepfather’s life, and he dedicated the film to Fouad Malouf, a Lebanese businessman.
Del Toro tells Sky News it was a gift to play a truly unique character.
“It’s like taking motivational medication,” he says.
“You’re motivated because it’s Wes Anderson. You’re motivated because of the script, the story and the characters. It’s unpredictable and original. [There’s] One hell of the Ark, and it’s full of contradictions. ”
Always keep actors in mind – well, almost…
Michael Cera, who plays Bjorn, says he had a “sense of fear” to join the cast. His role was written with him in mind.
“[Anderson] You’d imagine that every actor was at his disposal,” he says.
As production was pushed back due to the actor’s strike, Serra feared the project might “collapse.”
“I wasn’t really relieved until we were there,” he admits.
All details are meticulously planned in Anderson film universes – from the art of the walls (in this case original work by Renoir and Magritte) to the intricate backstory of characters who collect chisels in plastic bags as children.
Most roles have been written by the Fantastic Mr. Fox filmmakers with certain actors in mind, but the exception this time is Riesle, the daughter of a business tycoon.
Dream phone
After a few months of auditioning process, Mia Threapleton was asked to play the straight talk nun, beckoned by her father to take on the family business after her sixth near death experience.
Kate Winslet’s 24-year-old daughter called from an agent while on the train to receive the news.
“I didn’t believe them – and she laughed at me [and said] “Of course I’m not lying to you, this is true.” Then I sat on the floor and cried. ”

Marvel’s next Avengers movie is late
Del Toro believes that what stood out as the “inventive” actor she had thought of on her feet was the screen test of Thrae Pluton, creating some of her makeshift nun costumes with napkins on the lunch tray.
“I said, ‘Has anyone got a hairpin?’ And I stuck it to my head. ”
Chop Wes Anderson’s films from the bucket list is a goal for many actors. Trepton says she has yet to agree to achieve that early in her career.
Phoenician plans are now in the cinemas.
