Tokyo, April 7, 2025 /prnewswire/ – The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has held the final round of two important fashion competitions – Next Fashion Designer Tokyo 2025 (NFDT) and Sustainable Fashion Design Awards 2025 (SFDA) – Saturday, March 29th, 2025. The final judgement took place in the form of a fashion show, celebrating the creativity and potential of emerging designers.

“NFDT2025” is a competition aimed at discovering and cultivating young designers who live or study Tokyoproviding them with the opportunity to grow into internationally successful talent. Meanwhile, SFDA2025 is looking to introduce innovative fashion pieces that rethink traditional Japanese materials such as kimono fabrics for global audiences.
Each competition’s jury panel included some of the most prominent figures in the fashion industry. For NFDT, the panel is included Morinagarihikodesigners at Anrealage and regulars at Paris Fashion Week, and Takahashi YuhoCreative Director of CFCL, and six other major industry figures. The SFDA panel featured Norbert Leuret, president of LVMH Japan. Hideaki Shikamadesigners of “Children of the Scordance” and regulars at Milan Fashion Week, along with six well-known experts.
In total, 16 exceptional works were selected in both competitions and received the highest honors in various categories.

The 16 winners will receive support from brand development guidance to international showcase opportunities, including potential participation in Paris Fashion Week.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is working to advance the fashion and apparel industry as part of its vision for a wider position. Tokyo Side by Paris, Milan, New York and London As a major global fashion capital. Various strategic initiatives are underway and more planned in the future.
